| North
America was first settled by the English. New
England colonies were founded and built by the
same people that had settled Massachusetts.
New England has a rich Colonial history beginning
with the arrival of the Mayflower at Plymouth
in 1620 and continuing through the events leading
to the American Revolution. Four of six New
England states were members of the original
13 Colonies; Maine was part of Massachusetts
and Vermont became the 14th state following
the formation of the United States. Boston,
Lexington, Concord, and their neighbors were
the birthplace of the American Revolution. |
